An Ultralight (Microlight) is a two-seated small aircraft with powered engine designed to carry no more than two people (pilot and passenger), with a maximum fuel capacity of 90 liters and a total weight of less than 600kg, including fuel and persons onboard. It has an imposed speed limit of less than 130 km/hr. Average speeds are about 80 km/hr.
People fly Ultralights because it is FUN! Ultralight flights are considered as recreational aviation flight for people who enjoy adventures. Nepal is blessed with one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world with 8000 m high snow capped mountains, green hills, serene rivers and lakes.
You can film and take clear photos of nature from the bird’s eye view while flying an Ultralight. Leave your woes behind, soar to the heights, bathe in the clouds, reach out for the mountains and kiss the azure sky. It’s a life time experience.
You don’t need to have any specific knowledge in order to have an Ultralight flight with us, but here is a general overview. Before, flying we will go over what you need to do, and you must follow all pilot and crewmembers instuctions. Your pilot will make the flight as smooth as possible but somethims you may encounter minor turbulence during your flight, which is entirely normal.
The reality of Ultraligh flighs is that sometimes launches (starts) have to be aborted due to wheather conditions, airport restricions, etc. If pilot does not feel that it is safe to fly, he/she may abort the start as well. In this case you will be instucted by the pilot or any crewmember of Avia Club Nepal about how to proceed further: wait, stop, change the time of your flight, or cancel it. Your pilot will do his/her best to make your flight a success. Yet, if during the flight, due to some circumstances such as weather changes or the flight control tower instructions, etc. your pilot may slightly change the flight rout.
Yes. There ara a few things that passenger should know. First is that the weight of the passenger cannot exceed 110 kg (240 lb). The company employees can check your weigh using the company scales and if it exceeds set parameters, stop the flight. Second, you must read, understand and agree with the liability waiver form that must be signed prior to an Ultralight flight. Minor -participant under 18 must be signed off by a parent or legal guardian.
In comparison to regular aircraft, Ultralights have a tremendous advantage over it due to their low weight and speed. Their high aerodynamic qualities allow this delta wing aircraft to perform long flights and land even with the engine turned off. Their unique design includes a ballistic parachute system, which enables the aircraft to land safely in case of emergency.
Ultralights need only 300 meters of airfield to take-off and land.
Avia Club Nepal has multi national pilots coming from all over the world. They are highly trained professionals with thousands of Ultralight flight hours to their credit. Most of them have been flying with Avia Club Nepal for several years. Some of them worked as Air Force pilots in their previous career.
Wear footwear that provides a good support as possible. During the autumn (fall) and winter it is a good idea to have a sweater and a light jacket with you.
You may bring your digital camera, camcorder for filming, yet secure it with a strap if you are planning to fly an open cabin aircraft. As there is weight limit in Ultralights, any extra luggage is not allowed onboard: however, your bags and belongings can safely be left with our ground hosts in the locker box while you are taking your flight.

Paragliding is the recreational and competitive adventure sport of flying paragliders: lightweight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft with no rigid primary structure. It is considered an extreme sport that is fun and exciting. In our case, it is also a serious and responsible piloting job, of which you are a part. By participating in a Tandem Paragliding flight you become a major part of the flight crew. The quality of our start and landing will greatly depend on you. As such, it is strongly required that you follow all pilot instructions.
Tandem paragliding flights involve a passenger being securely strapped into a comfortable flying harness positioned in front of the pilot and connected to the pilot and the glider by spreader bars. The tandem paraglider is specially designed to carry two people and is nearly twice the size of a regular solo paraglider.
In order to have a successful start, gain altitude and have a continuous flight, your pilot uses thermal air currents. The relative unpredictability of these thermals makes it impossible to guarantee with certainty the duration of your flight. Your pilot will use all his/her experience and ability to make the flight as long as possible but thermals are not constant. Often times, when several gliders take off at the same time, some have a successful long flight while others have to cut it short due to various whether conditions and safety factors. This is part of the adventure of paragliding.
You don’t need to have specific knowledge to paraglide in tandem, but here is a general overview. Before flying we will go over what you need to do, and you must follow the pilot instructions. Most importantly, when we say “run” when launching you need to run and keep running until we are in the air. While flying, we control the paraglider by pulling on brake handles and by shifting our weight. You may asked to help by shifting your weight to the side with the pilot during a turn, and if conditions allow the pilot may give you the brake handles so you can control the paraglider yourself. We have a backup parachute that we can deploy in the unlikely event of an emergency. When we go in to land, the pilot will ask you to get your legs down and be ready to run; often we touch down very gently, landing almost stopped, but you need to run if necessary. Your pilot will make the flight as calm as possible but the nature of paragliding flight means that you will likely encounter minor turbulence during flight, this is entirely normal.
First, you should definetely want to do it and not be doing it to please anyone else. Then you should be in good physical and mental health to fly and your waight connot exceed 100 kg (200 lb). You must understand the liability waiver form that must be signed prior to paragliding. Children under 18 wanting to fly must be signed off by a parent or legal guardian. The ligal form will be provided to you by our stuff members before the flight.
We will do our best to prevent any serious threat to your safety, but we cannot prevent you from doing some things that might hurt yourself nor can we guarantee that we will perform perfectly. The reality of paragliding that sometimes launches (starts) has to be aborted. This is normal. If the pilot does not feel the glider has inflated satisfactory he/she may abort the start. In this case you must stop as instructed by the pilot and try again. Your pilot will do all that is necessary to have a safe flight. This means, cutting a flight short to have a safe landing due to weather/air current conditions, the mental or physical state of the passenger, etc.
Here are two common paragliding safety adages that we keep in mind:
1) “Launching is optional; landing is mandatory,” and
2) “It is better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.”
Please support us in this emphasis on safety.
Wear footwear that provides as much ankle support as possible; sturdy boots are best. You may bring a small camera on the flight, but secure the camera to you with a strap (We have learned that if you drop a camera from several hundred feet you will not recover it in one piece!).
